The winners of the 31st edition of the Salvador de Madariaga European Journalism Prize are announced today. This year’s winners are: Encarna Samitier, from 20 minutos, in the written press category; Marta García Aller, contributor to Onda Cero, in the radio category; and Lluís Tovar, from Telecinco, in the television category.
Jury deliberations
In the written press category, the jury decided to award the prize to Encarna Samitier for her commitment to European values and her work to disseminate them, first in the regional press, such as El Heraldo de Aragón, and then in a national medium, 20 minutos, always with a firm commitment to making them accessible to all audiences.
In the radio category, Marta García Aller was awarded for the depth and modernity of her radio analyses, highlighting her avant-garde value and her ability to anticipate new social trends and her active and independent defence of the values that underpin coexistence.
In the television category, the award went to Lluís Tovar for his rigorous work with sources, his precision and his capacity for synthesis in transmitting complex issues to a general audience. The jury emphasised that Tovar is a benchmark in community news, is didactic and projects the firm commitment of a new generation of correspondents.

Lhe deliberations of the jury for the 31st edition of the Prize took place at the headquarters of the European Journalists’ Association on 17 March 2025. The jury was chaired by Margaritis Schinas, former Vice-President of the European Commission. Gascón, editor of the Spanish edition of Letras Libres and columnist for El País; Pilar Velasco, director of Demócrata and columnist for Infolibre; José Antonio Zarzalejos, president of the editorial board of El Confidencial. Miguel Ángel Aguilar, secretary general of the Association of European Journalists, María Andrés, director of the European Parliament Office in Spain, and Lucas González Ojeda, acting director of the European Commission Representation in Spain, acted as non-voting secretaries.
The Salvador de Madariaga European Journalism Award
The prize rewards the work of professional journalists whose work helps to form a rigorous and verified public opinion about the European Union. The prize, consisting of a diploma and a sum of €15 000 in each category (written press, radio and television), is awarded annually by the Representation of the European Commission in Spain and the Association of European Journalists with the collaboration of the Office of the European Parliament in Spain.
The award ceremony will be held in Zaragoza on 17 June at 19h00.
