The DiscoverEU initiative announces that more than 30,000 young Europeans will receive a free travel voucher to explore Europe’s diversity.
36 318 young Europeans aged 18, including 5 000 Spaniards, will receive a free travel voucher to explore Europe’s diversity, learn about its cultural heritage and history and connect with people from across the continent, thanks to the DiscoverEU initiative, funded under the Erasmus+ programme. Candidates selected for the October 2023 edition of DiscoverEU will be notified today. They will travel mainly by rail between March 2024 and May 2025.
Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said: “DiscoverEU is a unique opportunity to embark on an unforgettable journey across Europe, where every stop creates new relationships and highlights the multi-faceted beauty of Europe. To all young people embarking on this extraordinary journey: may every place broaden your perspectives, may every interaction enrich your spirits, and may every encounter leave a memorable memory.
This DiscoverEU application round was open to young people from EU Member States as well as from Erasmus+ partner countries, born between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2005. In total, 144,038 young people applied for this edition. DiscoverEU also includes a learning dimension, with pre-departure information or meetings across Europe. Young participants can join the official Facebook group #DiscoverEU to connect with the DiscoverEU community.
