On 24 March, Parliament’s Special Committee on the Housing Crisis hosted a conference with the Commission to discuss ways to ensure EU citizens can access affordable housing.
The conference, organised jointly with the European Commission, addressed the current housing crisis and explore measures that could be taken at EU level to tackle it. MEPs and representatives from the Commission and other EU institutions heard from national and regional authorities and stakeholders about what is being done in EU countries to improve access to affordable housing. The conference launched the public debate on affordable housing and its findings will help inform a Parliament report on the topic, expected to be presented later this year. The conference has been opened by Committee chair Irene Tinagli and European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen.
