The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, will be in Madrid today, where she will receive the Forum Europe 2024 Prize awarded by the New Economy Forum. In the words of the organisation, the award is in recognition of “her political career, her contribution to the construction of Europe, her ties of friendship with Spain and her permanent vocation of service and commitment to strengthening the European Union, its traditional values and its strategic autonomy”.
The organisation also highlights “her strong leadership from the beginning of her mandate until today, where President Metsola has been able to articulate majorities in the European Parliament, which have been decisive for the economic and social development of Europe, promoting greater rights for citizens, investments, growth, sustainability and employment; solidarity with migrants and refugees; and equality”.
The award ceremony will take place at 13:00 at the Teatro Real in Madrid and can be followed on streaming.
It will be presided over by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, the President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán, and the President of the Constitutional Court, Cándido Conde-Pumpido. The President of Nueva Economía Fórum, José Luis Rodríguez, will also attend.
The award ceremony was scheduled to take place on 30 October, but the tragedy caused by the hurricane that affected several areas of Valencia and Albacete led to the postponement of the event. At the time, Roberta Metsola expressed her support for the people affected and assured them that the EU would respond to such a catastrophe.
