The Commission has launched a series of calls for public consultation on two initiatives that will be key to fully implementing the Clean Industry Pact and the Affordable Energy Action Plan: the Action Plan for Electrification and the Heating and Cooling Strategy.
The Action Plan for Electrification will set out how to accelerate the cost-effective electrification of EU energy consumption and address potential barriers. The Heating and Cooling Strategy will support the implementation of existing legislation and propose ways to improve efficiency in areas such as energy infrastructure planning, district heating and waste heat recovery.
The two initiatives—which are interrelated and are expected to be adopted early next year—will support efforts to deliver competitiveness, affordability, security and sustainability for EU citizens and businesses.
The Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, said: “For Europe to move towards a net-zero economy, our energy system must be powered by clean, locally produced and more secure electricity. Our plans to boost electrification and decarbonise heating and cooling will help industry, construction and mobility sectors to replace polluting fossil fuels with competitively priced decarbonised energy. This benefits both the economy and the climate.”
The calls for proposals are available on the “Tell us what you think” portal. Interested parties can submit documentation and respond to the questionnaire until 20 November 2025.
