Europol is based in The Hague (Netherlands) and its mission is to support EU Member States in preventing and combating all forms of serious and organised international crime, cybercrime and terrorism.
The objectives of the Europol internship programme are:
- To provide trainees with unique, first-hand experience of the workings of Europol in particular and the European Union institutions in general. The aim is to give them an understanding of the objectives and goals of Europol’s processes and policies.
- To enable interns to gain practical experience and knowledge of the daily work of Europol’s departments and services.
- To provide the opportunity to work in a multicultural, multilingual and multi-ethnic environment, contributing to the development of mutual understanding, trust and tolerance.
- To promote European integration in the spirit of new governance and through active participation in order to raise awareness of true European citizenship.
- To provide fellows with the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge acquired during their studies and training, in particular their specific areas of expertise. To introduce these fellows to the professional world and its constraints, functions and opportunities.
Functions:
The purpose of this internship project announcement is to establish a reserve list of selected candidates for the Information Management Strategy (IM) team, Commercial Product Planning and Management (C3-11), IM Unit, Europol Capabilities Directorate.
There are currently two (2) internship positions available in the IM Strategy, Planning and Business Product Management team. The successful candidate will join the internship project for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on the intern’s performance, the interest of the service and budget availability, with a working week of 40 hours. The internship will take place at Europol’s premises in The Hague, Netherlands.
The intern will support the team by:
- Cataloguing objects identified as part of the Historical Archive;
- Compiling and organising descriptive information for the archives;
- Digitising records as needed;
- Researching various topics of interest to the project;
- Create and manage project documentation;
- Provide input for specific internal work procedures;
- Any other related activities under the supervision of the internship supervisor.
All tasks will be carried out under supervision and in compliance with applicable confidentiality, security and data protection requirements.
Requirements:
- Be a national of a Member State of the European Union;
- Have reached the age of majority in your country of origin;
- Have a level of education equivalent to a full university degree or vocational training relevant to Europol’s tasks. Only qualifications issued by authorities in EU Member States and qualifications recognised as equivalent by the competent bodies in those States will be accepted. If the main studies were completed outside the European Union or at a non-EU institution located within the European Union, the candidate’s qualification (hereinafter referred to as a ‘non-EU qualification’) must have been recognised by a body officially delegated for that purpose by one of the Member States of the European Union (e.g. a national Ministry of Education).
- Have a very good knowledge of English, which is the main language of internal communication at Europol, and a satisfactory knowledge (corresponding to at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) of another European Union language.
Have no more than six weeks’ experience:
- benefited from any type of internship (formal or informal, paid or unpaid) in a European institution, agency or body (including Europol), or
- have held any type of employment in a European institution, agency or body (including Europol).
Advantages:
During the internship period, interns currently receive a MONTHLY MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE of EUR 1,602, which is intended to cover the costs of living in the Netherlands. In accordance with the rules applicable to the Europol internship programme mentioned below, this amount may be updated during the internship.
Upon request, interns must be ableto provide invoices and receipts relating to living expenses incurred in the Netherlands during their internship at Europol.
