The University of Coimbra is opening a call for the allocation of a research grant, with one or more positions, under the Sustainable Stone for Portugal (7249) project.
Job Functions
The call is governed by this Notice of Opening, by the University of Coimbra’s Research Grant Regulation (RBI-UC), subsidiarily by the Research Grant Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology (RBI-FCT), by the Statute of the Associated Researcher (EBI), by the Rules for the Allocation and Management of Grants in R&D Projects, by the Administrative Procedure Code (CPA), all in their current wording, and by other applicable national and community legislation.
Requirements
I.I – Grant Recipients: The grant is aimed at graduates with a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computational Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Physics Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering, enrolled in a PhD program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computational Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Physics Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
I.II – Ineligible Candidates: Candidates who have already benefited from two research grant contracts with the UC while enrolled in a doctoral degree, regardless of whether each contract reached the maximum legally allowed duration.
I.III – Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements: a) Nationals of Portugal or other EU Member States b) Nationals of third countries c) Stateless persons d) Beneficiaries of political refugee status
II – Place of the grant: Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
III – Scientific supervision/coordinating the grant: Hélder de Jesus Araújo
IV – Work plan/Objectives to be achieved: Development of a navigation and localization system for a robot moving in a flat, contaminated, and noisy environment. The system must include:
- Visual odometry;
- Obstacle detection;
- The sensors to be used include odometry, a vision system, and an indoor localization system based on UWB.
V – Initial duration of the grant: 4 months, as long as it does not exceed the project’s end date.
V.I – Possibility of renewal: Possibly renewable.
Benefits
Monthly grant amount (paid via bank transfer at the end of each month): €1259.64 In addition to the amounts above, voluntary social security (SSV) is included when the grant lasts for six months or more, corresponding to the first level, if the candidate opts for it, as well as mandatory personal accident insurance.
Funding: The grant(s) allocated under this call will be funded or co-funded by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan and by the Next Generation EU Funds, in accordance with CALL No. 02/C05-i01/2022, Component 5 – Business Capitalization and Innovation – Mobilizing Agendas for Business Innovation.
