The University of Stavanger (UiS) has a vacant PhD position in Health Sciences with a focus on immigrant health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Public Health.
The position is available from August 1, 2025.
This is a trainee position that will give promising researchers an opportunity for academic development through a PhD education leading to a doctoral degree.
The hired candidate will be admitted to the PhD program in Health and Medicine. The education includes relevant courses amounting to about six months of study, a dissertation based on independent research, participation in national and international research environments, relevant academic communication, a trial lecture and public defence.
Key tasks in the project will include:
- Statistical analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal data
- Collection of qualitative data through interviews with refugees
- Transcription, coding, and analysis of qualitative data
- Writing of research articles to be published in international, peer-reviewed journals
- Dissemination of research findings at conferences and to relevant stakeholders
Qualification requirements
You must have a solid academic background with a five-year master’s degree in health and/or social sciences, or other relevant education that qualifies for admission to a research training program.
You are required to have experience with statistical analyses and/or the use of mixed methods. In addition, it is desirable that you have published, or submitted, at least one scientific article to a peer-reviewed journal, and that you have knowledge of migration as a research field.
If you are completing your degree in the spring of 2025, you are also welcome to apply. In that case, you must submit documentation of your completed education as soon as it is available, and no later than August 15, 2025.
Applicants with an education from an institution with a different grade scale than A-F, and/or with other types of credits than sp/ECTS, must attach a confirmed conversion scale that shows how the grades can be compared with the Norwegian A-F scale and a Diploma Supplement or similar that explains the scope of the subjects that are included in the education. You can use these conversion scales to calculate your points for admission.
