The Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão da Informação da Universidade Nova de Lisboa – NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) is calling for applications for the award of 1 (one) research grant in the field of Marketing, for PhD students, under the Research Scholarship Regulation of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and The Research Fellow Statute (EBI).
The grant will be funded entirely by Nova Information Management School (NOVA IMS) – Universidade Nova de Lisboa, under the framework of the “Centro de Investigação” within the scope of the PhD in Information Management.

To apply for the Doctoral Research Scholarship it is necessary to:
- Have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing;
- Hold a Master’s degree in Data-Driven Marketing;
- Possess knowledge in Data Science for Marketing;
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Information Management.
Work plan and goals to achieve
The project focuses on developing data-driven criteria to identify financial influencers based on metrics and social network analysis.
The objectives of this research are to identify which data-driven criteria categorize a person as an influencer in the financial context; examine variations in trading volume associated with stock mentions made by influencers using time-series and event-based analyses; understand the influence of financial influencers on price and trading volume in cryptocurrency markets compared to stock markets; and assess how the impact of financial influencers varies across different social media platforms.
This study will employ observational and computational methods to evaluate the influence of finfluencers on investor behavior across various asset classes. The research encompasses social media and stock markets, analyzing 24 to 36 months of historical data to examine both short-term and long-term effects.
The research work should adopt a multidisciplinary approach, applying marketing research knowledge and skills.
Compliance with ethical standards and a strong sense of responsibility are considered essential for the position.
The candidate is expected to dedicate part of their time to developing research proposals within the Marketing research line.
Type and Duration of Scholarships
The research grant for a PhD degree is intended to finance the research activities carried out by the grantee, leading to the attainment of a doctoral academic degree at Portuguese universities.
The research activities leading to obtaining the academic Doctor degree by the selected candidate must be within the framework of the activities and strategy plan of “Centro de Investigação” and must be developed within the scope of the following Doctorate Program:
- Doctorate Program in Information Management, of NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS).
The scholarship will last for 12 months, renewable for a maximum period of 48 months.
Amount of monthly maintenance allowance
The amount of the scholarship corresponds to 1.259,64€, according to the table of monthly maintenance allowances set out in the NOVA University Lisbon Research Grant Regulations.
The monthly payment will be made by bank transfer.
The scholarship may also include other components, under the terms set out in article 18 of the RBI and at the amounts provided for in its Annex II.
All scholarship holders benefit from personal accident insurance for research activities, supported by Nova Information Management School (NOVA IMS).
All scholarship holders who are not covered by any social protection regime can ensure the exercise of the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance regime, under the terms of the Social Security System’s 17 Contributory Scheme Code, ensuring NOVA IMS the charges resulting from contributions under the terms and with the limits provided for in article 10 of the EBI.
