The Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) and the Horizon Europe ActEU Project invite you to submit papers exploring policy solutions for the future of democracy!
The Challenge: “What can we do to ensure a brighter future for participatory democracy?”
Submit a short essay or policy brief (maximum 2,000 words, excluding spaces) that includes recommendations to counter the trend of democratic backsliding.
The paper should address one or more of the five questions below (although new topics are welcome):
- What strategies can help reduce political polarisation in Europe?
- What electoral reforms can best increase democratic participation and restore public trust?
- How can digital technologies be integrated into policy-making processes to enhance citizen participation?
- How do different forms of non-electoral participation influence policy-making?
- How can the EU better support democracy in its neighbourhood?
Who can apply
- University students (Bachelor, Master, and PhD students)
- Young researchers up to 30 years old
- People from all nationalities and residencies.
Benefits
Winning authors will be invited to the ActEU final conference in Brussels on 5 February 2026.
Travel and accommodation will be reimbursed up to a cost of EUR 500.
