The European Commission launched on 24 November aWhistleblower Toolunder the Artificial Intelligence Regulation. The tool will provide a secure and confidential channel for individuals to report suspected breaches of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation directly to the EU’s AI Office, the Commission’s centre of expertise on AI.
Whistleblowers can provide relevant information in any of the official EU languages and in any relevant format. The tool offers a secure way to report potential breaches of legislation that could jeopardise fundamental rights, health or public confidence. The highest level of confidentiality and data protection is ensured through certified encryption mechanisms. This system allows for secure monitoring, and complainants can receive updates on the progress of their complaint and have the possibility to respond to additional questions from the IA Office without compromising their anonymity.
The EU’s Artificial Intelligence Regulation aims to promote innovation and the uptake of AI in the EU, while addressing potential risks to the health, safety and fundamental rights of individuals and safeguarding democracy and the rule of law. By reporting information on breaches, whistleblowers can help the AI Office to detect problems at an early stage, thus contributing to the safe and transparent development of AI technologies.
