The European Commission has launched a call for data to help shape the first Action Plan for Women in Research, Innovation and Start-ups. This initiative aims to make the EU the leading destination for women in research and innovation by the end of the decade.
EkaterinaZaharieva, Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, said:“Wewantwomen in research and innovation or start-ups to see their future in Europe. That is why we are making Europe the place where their ambitions can best be supported.”
The Action Plan aims to tap into the EU’s diverse talent pool to improve competitiveness and stimulate innovation. It will address persistent challenges in gender equality by proposing strategies to improve working conditions and career advancement for women. This initiative is in line with the ‘Choose Europe’ campaign, which promotes the continent’s exemplary research environment, unparalleled quality of life and commitment to diversity and inclusion. By 2030, Europe aims to create an unrivalled environment in terms of its attractiveness to women who wish to pursue a career in research and innovation.
The call is open to contributions from citizens, businesses, policymakers, academia and civil society organisations until 23 February 2026 on the ‘Have your say’ portal.
