The European Commission is today launching a call for experts to join the Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform. By supporting the implementation of the European Water Resilience Strategy, the Platform will help to create a sustainable, resilient, smart and competitive water economy in Europe.
The Platform will serve as a forum for dialogue and expertise to support the following objectives: restoring and protecting the water cycle, building a water-smart economy, and ensuring access to clean and affordable water for all. It will comprise a maximum of 60 members for a period of five years. The call for applications will remain open until 17 April 2026.
Sunday’sWorld Water Dayis a stark reminder of the urgent need for Europe to be water-resilient. As Jessika Roswall, Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and the Competitive Circular Economy, highlighted on this occasion, water resilience is key to our health, safety and prosperity. However, climate change, unsustainable water use and pollution are jeopardising water security, both in Europe and beyond. More frequent droughts and floods, the loss of glaciers and changing rainfall patterns are intensifying these pressures. Furthermore, water is increasingly at the centre of geopolitical tensions and conflicts.
It is therefore more important than ever to make progress on the European Water Resilience Strategy. Through this Strategy, the Commission is stepping up measures to protect freshwater ecosystems, improve water efficiency and accelerate innovation and investment in sustainable water management. The Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform will contribute to this work.
Further information is available online on the Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform, as well as in Commissioner Roswall’s statement on World Water Day.
