The European Commission has announced the results of the 2024 call for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (“MSCA”) doctoral networks. With a total of €608.6 million, 149 doctoral programmes across Europe will be funded, providing training and career development opportunities for more than 1 800 doctoral candidates.
The selected programmes cover all scientific disciplines and will help researchers develop academic and transferable skills. Among them, eight industrial doctorates will offer training in collaboration with companies and public sector organisations, while eight joint doctorates will provide integrated training leading to joint or multiple degrees.
Ekaterina Zaharieva, Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, said: “It has always been clear to us: we need talent in Europe. They are the foundation of our research and innovation ecosystem. We are committed to making Europe attractive to researchers by improving working and employment conditions and career prospects.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions doctoral networks are part of the Horizon Europe programme. The next call for applications is scheduled for 28 May 2025. More information is available on the dedicated website. To further promote Europe as an attractive destination for excellent researchers and boost EU competitiveness, this year the Commission will pilot a new MSCA action “Choose Europe”, with a budget of €22.5 million. It will focus in particular on tackling precariousness at the start of research careers.
