The European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, is visiting Palma de Mallorca this Thursday and Friday.
Today, Thursday 5 February, the Commissioner will participate in the 1st Conference on Fisheries, Insularity and Co-management, which will take place at the Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art in Palma de Mallorca. The meeting will bring together representatives of the fishing sector from different territories, as well as various personalities, including Margalida Prohens, President of the Government of the Balearic Islands; Isabel Artime, Secretary General for Fisheries of the Spanish Government; and Jaime Martínez, Mayor of Palma de Mallorca.
Afterwards, at the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action and Local Cooperation, he will hold a trilateral meeting with representatives of the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Government of Spain.
Afterwards, the Commissioner will attend a presentation on the management of the Levante de Mallorca Marine Reserve and visit a marine reserve monitoring vessel. In the afternoon, he will attend a discussion on fishing congestion, moderated by the Director General of Fisheries of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Antoni M. Grau.
The visit will conclude on Friday 6 February with a tour of the fish market in Palma de Mallorca. This will be followed by a visit to the Pere Garau Market.
