The “Molecular Mycology and Mycoparasitism” group at the Department of Microbiology at the University of Innsbruck is seeking a PhD candidateto work on a new project focusing on nutrient signalling and mycoparasitism in Trichoderma atroviride, which includes microscopic monitoring as well as a novel approach to the identification of transcription factor effectors. The position will be filled for a period of three years, starting in May 2026, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Role within the project:
- Microscopy of the localisation of the fluorophore-labelled transcription factor under different stimuli;
- Development and optimisation of innovative approaches forTrichoderma atroviride;
- Monitoring the production of specialised metabolites;
- Generation of deletion mutants for identified effectors;
- Coordinate with collaborating partners;
- Writing scientific articles and participating in symposiums/conferences;
- Support in supervising master’s and bachelor’s students.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in microbiology/molecular biology (preferably), cell biology, biochemistry or related fields;
- Experience working with filamentous fungi, in a sterile environment and in media preparation. Experience in nucleic acid handling (PCR, cloning, minipreparation, restriction digestion) and fungal transformation is valued;
- Experience with fluorescence microscopy;
- Knowledge of programming, R, statistical analysis or bioinformatics is an asset;
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Basic knowledge of German is an advantage;
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills;
- Strong analytical/critical skills and ability to work independently.
