The European Commission has approved the revision of Spain’s regional aid map for the period from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2027 under the Regional Aid Guidelines, in accordance with EU state aid rules.
On March 17, 2022, the Commission approved the regional aid map 2022-2027 for Spain and on December 20, 2022, the Commission approved the territorial plan for a just climate transition in Spain, which identified the territories eligible for support from the Just Transition Fund. These are territories located in a region eligible for support under Article 107(3)(a) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (the so-called “a” areas), which regulates support for the most disadvantaged regions.

The modification of Spain’s regional aid map approved on 9 March allows regional disparities to be addressed more decisively, as aid amounts for investments in these territories will be higher. The maximum amounts will be increased from 30% to 40% of eligible investment costs in parts of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. In the region of Murcia, in order to limit the difference in aid intensity between regions eligible for aid under Article 107(3)(c) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (so-called ‘c’ areas) and adjacent ‘a’ areas, the maximum aid amounts will be increased from 20 % to 25 % of the eligible investment costs.
The non-confidential version of this decision will be published under the case number SA.106039 in the State Aid Register on the Commission’s Competition website. The list of publications of state aid decisions on the internet and in the Official Journal can be found on the Competition Weekly e-News website.
