Título: Working party on public international law (COJUR) - Report on the EU guidelines on promoting compliance with international humanitarian law, January 2022 - December 2022
Summary:International humanitarian law (IHL), a fundamental part of international law, aims to limit the impact of armed conflict. It does so by protecting those who are not, or who are no longer, participating in hostilities, such as civilians, the sick and the wounded, and persons deprived of liberty. It also restricts the means and methods of warfare. IHL sets out the responsibilities of the parties to an armed conflict. Respect for IHL is of the utmost importance for limiting the suffering caused by armed conflict. Although this set of rules is universally accepted and contributes daily to safeguarding the lives and dignity of persons caught up in armed conflict, the world continues to witness a growing number of violations of IHL.
