Título: Democratic oversight of the police
Resumen:Este estudio, encargado por el Departamento de Política de Derechos de los Ciudadanos y Asuntos Constitucionales del Parlamento Europeo a petición de la Comisión LIBE, tiene por objeto proporcionar información de referencia sobre la ética, la responsabilidad y la supervisión de la policía en toda la UE. El estudio muestra que las herramientas e instrumentos existentes en la UE pueden contribuir a mejorar la responsabilidad policial. El estudio también identifica algunas lagunas y debilidades. Se ofrecen recomendaciones para remediar las lagunas y los puntos débiles identificados.
Summary:This study, commissioned by the European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the LIBE Committee, aims to provide background information concerning police ethics, accountability, and oversight across the EU. The study shows that existing EU tools and instruments can contribute to enhance police accountability. The study also identifies some gaps and weaknesses. Recommendations are provided in order to remedy the gaps and weaknesses identified.
