Summary:The COVID-19 pandemic has battered world-wide aviation in a way that could never have been imagined and we are still trying to assess the full extent of the impact that it will have on civil aviation in the longer term. While the pandemic is not yet over, there are signs at last that vaccination offers a viable way to reduce levels of infection and a basis to realistically plan for a full reopening. At the same time, we recognise that this reopening must be achieved systematically and that it may take some considerable time for operating levels to return to those not seen since 2019.
