The UPR CHROME is an interdisciplinary research unit bringing together around 70 people (including permanent staff, doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows) with the following objectives:
– to use cross-disciplinary approaches (experimental sciences, technical sciences, and human and social sciences) to study phenomena linked to the emergence and/or chronicity of risks and the way in which they are dealt with, both scientifically and in terms of how they are taken into account in decision-making and in public, media and political debate;
– to help people make informed decisions about emerging and chronic risks to their safety and well-being.
The UPR Chrome is part of the Institut Interdisciplinaire de Recherche sur les Risques et la Société, recently created at the University of Nîmes as part of the GARDENER Excellence project. The aim of this institute is to develop cross-disciplinary approaches and projects, building on the teams that make it up and developing innovative and disruptive approaches in the field of risk and vulnerability management.
Duties of the position
The work of the person recruited will have to be in line with the university’s strategic axes linked to the flagship and structuring GARDENER project. In particular, it will strengthen research into the assessment, detection and management of risks to populations in relation to their environment.
More specifically, the applicant’s work should be in line with the following themes:
– assessing the impact on populations, risk management in the broad sense of the term
– propose crisis management scenarios to help prioritise (public) action and assist decision-making;
– modelling/analysing risks (and possibly their impacts) using data collected in the field (human data, sensors, etc.) and innovative approaches such as artificial intelligence.
More broadly, it is expected that the work of the person recruited will be part of interdisciplinary approaches combining IT, digital technology and communication management.
The publications of the person recruited will have to be at a level of excellence, in international journals with high impact factors.
The person recruited is expected to use his or her expertise to consolidate the projects conducted by the UPR Chrome and the Institute, and to develop new projects in line with the objectives of the Chair.
