The 2024 Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards (IIDA) & Science for SDGs Innovation Contest under the umbrella of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development will solicit innovation and creative works from young people around the world to raise awareness of and advocate for the important role of Science, Engineering and STEM in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aligning with the vision and mission of the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development (IDSSD) to build a culture of science.
Specifically, to contribute to the five main outcomes:
1) empowering the global community through scientific literacy,
2) generating and utilising actionable scientific knowledge to accelerate SDG progress aligned with human rights,
3) advancing basic sciences through global research collaborations,
4) promoting the widespread and equitable use of open science to democratise scientific processes and knowledge access, and
5) transforming national innovation systems to better serve scientific and societal needs.
These outcomes are designed to foster a more inclusive and effective scientific foundation for sustainable development worldwide.
Organizers
The IIDA is co-organized by UNESCO and the Organizing Committee of Future Designers International Innovation Design Awards & Science for SDGs Innovation Contest, carried out by the UNESCO-UNITRAIN Youth Competence Development Project.
Eligibility criteria
The IIDA welcomes the participation of young people aged 16 to 35 from around the world, including young secondary school and university students, as well as early-career scientists and engineers. Application must be submitted by teams of up to six members. For teams with more than 2 members, there should be at least one female member of the team in order to ensure gender equality.
Eligible entries
We welcome a diverse range of works that advocate Sciences for the SDGs. We expect to see how diverse artistic creativities could unveil the beauty and power of sciences, exploring and revealing the profound impact of scientific endeavors on our path toward a more sustainable future.
These works can take many forms, including but not limited to, posters, videos, GIFs, illustrations, games, apps, interactive designs, as well as sustainable designs such as products, decorations, fashion, architecture, design and public art.
Application procedure
The application process will be completed on the designated IIDA application website (https://www.fd.show/member/login/iida).
The application platform will be open from 23 September to 27 October 2024.
The application will be submitted by each team. Please prepare in advance relevant information required by the application platform in order to submit the work and the information in due time.
The information required by the application platform is attached as a PDF document for your information. Please kindly note that the information will be entered directly through the platform. Any application submitted through email will not be accepted or considered.
Entry requirements
The works are required to be submitted in the following two formats:
Still images: Format: JPG, Resolution: 300 dpi, Size: Not less than A3, Maximum of 5 pictures in JPG format for each work.
Video: MP4, Resolution: HD, Duration: Not exceeding 8 minutes, File size: Not exceeding 500 MB. For other requirements, please refer to the 2024 IIDA website iida.ncda.ory.cn.
Certificate
Winners will be presented with a certificate jointly issued by UNESCO and IIDA. IIDA and UNESCO will announce winners on UNESCO’s website. Their projects will be showcased as key promotional materials in IDSSD activities.
