
You will be part of the Public Communication Division of the Directorate General Communications. The Directorate has approximately 250 staff members responsible for communicating the ECB’s work and mission to the public and the media. It manages digital and public communication, as well as media relations, and also leads the ECB’s initiatives to interact effectively with its own staff. It constantly strives to make the ECB more accessible to all audiences, including through its website and social media channels.
As a public communication intern, you will be part of either the Campaigns and Civil Society team or the Blog team. You will be assigned to one of the teams based on your interests and skills. The Campaigns and Civil Society team is responsible for the Espresso Economics YouTube channel, which explains fundamental economic concepts that affect people’s daily lives. The Blog team oversees the ECB Blog, which is aimed at experts but also reaches a much wider audience, providing accessible information on the economy and central bank policies. The Blog team also conducts and produces interviews and feature articles. You will work closely with other members of our Directorate-General as part of cross-divisional teams managing strategic communication projects or urgent tasks.

Your role
Internship 1: Intern in the Campaigns and Civil Society team
As an intern, you will:
- Prepare Espresso Economics scripts and create thumbnails and engaging visuals to increase video appeal and viewer engagement;
- Assist during the filming and production of Espresso Economics YouTube videos, including camera setup, lighting, and sound, to ensure a high-quality result;
- Build relationships with stakeholders, content creators, and team members to align video content with strategic objectives;
- Perform post-production editing of both short and long YouTube videos;
- Partner with communications agencies to ensure consistent branding and messaging across all videos;
- Conduct research on target audiences and topics for specific initiatives.
Internship 2: Intern on the Blog Team
As an intern, you will:
- help coordinate the publication of the ECB blog by managing the logistical and editorial phases;
- Research policy-relevant topics and gather information for blog posts targeting a variety of audiences, including experts, students, academics and others interested in economics or central banking;
- help coordinate the production of visual elements and develop creative illustrative concepts for the blog and produce short videos to support it;
- Establish links with communications agencies;
- Respond to enquiries from various stakeholders at all levels of the ECB.
- develop and prepare impact measurement reports and promote blog posts through media relations.
The internships offer excellent opportunities to understand a wide range of communication activities at the ECB. You will work closely with other teams in the Directorate General and other areas of the ECB, as well as with external actors such as other EU institutions, national central banks, universities and content creators. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives to continuously innovate in order to have a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.
Requirements:
- a bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, economics, international relations, business administration, political science, marketing, public relations or a similar field;
- a keen interest in and understanding of the ECB’s mission;
- experience in producing communication materials, both written and visual;
- the ability to simplify complex concepts and texts;
- a good knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- advanced (C1) proficiency in English and intermediate (B1) proficiency in at least one other official EU language, in accordance with theCommon European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desirable:
- a competent command (C2) of French or German, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
