During Monday’s session, the Petitions Committee discussed four Spanish petitions on alleged non-compliance with the EU regulation concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Venezuela.
Under the regulation, individuals linked to human rights violations face travel bans within the EU. All the petitions concern the presence of Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, who is subject to these restrictive measures, at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas international airport in January 2020.
Today, Tuesday, it will be the turn of three other Spanish petitions on different topics:
The first petition, on behalf of the Tarragona Avanza Association, on the implementation of standard gauge on the Castellbisbal-Murcia section of the Mediterranean rail corridor.
The second petition is about the abusive administration of antipsychotic drugs to children.
The third petition is on the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in response to the floods in Valencia.
The session can be followed live on this link.
Petitions to be shelved
15 Spanish proposals will be proposed for closure after having received a response from the European Commission. Some of these deal with issues related to gender discrimination in pricing, possible infringements of European airline legislation, municipal waste management in Moaña or the installation of a landfill in Salvatierra de los Barros. Others deal with alleged discrimination against nursing professionals, the criteria for defining sparsely populated areas in Spain, possible breaches of the EU bathing water directive in Murcia, alleged environmental damage in protected areas in Melilla, the quality of drinking water in La Coruña or alleged breaches of the habitats directive in the Valencian Community.
