The Blue Book Internship Programme is a five-month paid internship offered by the European Commission that provides young graduates from around the world with practical experience in EU policy-making and administration.
Apprentices work in a multicultural environment, develop professional skills and gain knowledge of how the EU institutions work.
Requirements:
The Blue Book Internship Program is open to college graduates who:
- You must have completed a standard 3-year higher education qualification (minimum EQF level 6), corresponding to a full degree cycle, or equivalent. You can only apply if you have an official certificate or confirmation from your university stating that you hold such a qualification. You will need to provide the following documents:
- Diplomas or certificates with final grades clearly indicated.

- Not having any previous work experience of any kind , exceeding 6 weeks in any EU institution, body or agency, delegation, with Members of the European Parliament (MEP) or Advocates General of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).
- have a very good knowledge of languages:
- For administrative internships , a very good knowledge of two official EU languages is required, one of which must be a working language: English, French or German, at level C1 or C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and a second language, at least at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
For non-EU nationals, only one procedural language at level C1 or C2 is required. - To do a translation internship at the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT), you must be able to translate into your main/target language (normally your mother tongue) from two other official EU languages (‘source languages’ * ):
- Your main/target language must be one of the official languages of the EU
- The first source language of the translation must be an EU working language: English, French or German (level C or mother tongue).
- Your second language of origin can be any of the official languages of the EU with a command of at least level B2
