On Thursday and Friday, the Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, will be in Armenia to further strengthen cooperation between the EU and Armenia and to boost regional connectivity.
On Thursday, in Yerevan, Commissioner Kos will meet with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. Discussions will focus on preparations for the upcoming EU-Armenia Summit, as well as on strengthening ties in the areas of transport, digital technology, energy and trade, in line with theEU’s Connectivity Agenda. They will also exchange views on the regional situation and Armenia’s democratic resilience. Commissioner Kos will also meet with Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mher Grigoryan, to review progress onthe EU’s €270 million Resilience and Growth Plan for Armenia. Following the meeting, a joint press release will be issued and broadcast live on EBSat approximately 16:30 CEST. The Commissioner will also meet with the Minister of the Interior, Arpine Sargsyan, to discuss bilateral cooperation.
On Friday, in Gyumri, Commissioner Kos will visit EU-funded businesses that support social inclusion, local economic growth and job creation. In 2024 alone, EU programmes supported more than 7,000 Armenian businesses, creating over 20,000 jobs. Commissioner Kos will also visit Gyumri’s historic market, currently undergoing restoration with EU funding, as well as an innovation centre that promotes young people’s skills in technology and design. Commissioner Kos will deliver a speech at Shirak State University. She will then meet with theEuropean Youth Ambassadors, as well as representatives of local civil society and journalists involved in EU-funded projects, to exchange views on their work and discuss their role in safeguarding Armenia’s democratic resilience.
