{"id":99211,"date":"2022-03-17T13:34:06","date_gmt":"2022-03-17T12:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=99211"},"modified":"2022-03-17T13:34:06","modified_gmt":"2022-03-17T12:34:06","slug":"conference-plenary-eu-citizens-team-up-with-ukranians-in-the-debate-on-the-future-of-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/conference-plenary-eu-citizens-team-up-with-ukranians-in-the-debate-on-the-future-of-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference Plenary: EU citizens team up with Ukranians in the debate on the Future of Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A number of Ukrainians joined EU citizens for the fourth Conference on the Future of Europe plenary in Strasbourg on 11-12 March to discuss the EU&#8217;s role in the world.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/multimedia.europarl.europa.eu\/share\/N01_AFPS_220314_CFP2?autoplay=off\" width=\"1080\" height=\"720\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">The plenary brought representatives of the citizens\u2019 panels together with those from European, national, regional and local authorities, as well as civil society and other organisations to discuss proposals on the EU in the world and migration; as well as on economy, social justice, young people and the digital transformation.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ep-wysiwig_heading-2\">The EU in the world<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">In the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, 30 Ukrainians including some parliamentarians attended the Conference Plenary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">Conference co-chair Guy Verhofstadt said: &#8220;The conclusions of this Conference will need to reflect the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine. It is clear the future will be different from what we could imagine only even a few weeks ago.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">The Ukrainians spoke about the war in their homeland within the discussion of the EU\u2019s role in the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">\u201cRight now, as I speak, Ukrainians are fighting for our European values. Today, I&#8217;m asking you for your support in our common struggle,\u201d\u00a0 said Ukrainian refugee Bozhena Boriak.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ep-wysiwig_heading-2\">European citizens\u2019 panel recommendations<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">The Conference Plenary discussed the recommendations of two European citizens\u2019 panels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The panel on\u00a0<strong>EU in the world<\/strong>\/<strong>migration<\/strong>\u00a0that met on 11-13 February 2022 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/headlines\/priorities\/conference-on-the-future-of-europe\/20220210STO23037\/future-of-europe-eu-in-the-world-migration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maastricht, the Netherlands<\/a>,\u00a0 prepared\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futureu.europa.eu\/assemblies\/citizens-panels\/f\/301\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">40 recommendations<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The panel which concluded its work on 25-27 February in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/headlines\/priorities\/conference-on-the-future-of-europe\/20220224STO24017\/citizens-panel-recommendations-economy-jobs-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dublin, Ireland<\/a>,\u00a0 on\u00a0<strong>a stronger economy, social justice and jobs<\/strong>\/<strong>education<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>culture<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>youth<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>sport<\/strong>\/<strong>digital<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>transformation\u00a0<\/strong>set out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futureu.europa.eu\/assemblies\/citizens-panels\/f\/298\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">48 recommendations<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\"><em>Find out\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/headlines\/priorities\/conference-on-the-future-of-europe\/20210902STO11111\/future-of-europe-citizens-panels-take-the-floor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>what European citizens\u2019 panels are and what their objective is<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">The recommendations from both national and European citizens\u2019 panels and the input gathered from the Conference website, grouped by theme are the core of the Conference Plenary debates. Proposals from the plenary will be submitted to the executive board, which will prepare a report in collaboration with the plenary.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ep-wysiwig_heading-2\">Coming up next<\/h4>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">The Conference Plenary will meet on 25-26 March and on 8-9 April to prepare their proposals for EU action based on the ideas submitted on the Conference platform and the recommendations of the citizens&#8217; panels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\"><em>Share and discuss ideas for the future of Europe<\/em>\u00a0<em>on the<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futureu.europa.eu\/?locale=xx&amp;pk_source=website&amp;pk_medium=link&amp;pk_campaign=europarl&amp;pk_content=headlines_editorial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Conference platform<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/es\/headlines\/eu-affairs\/20220311STO25316\/el-futuro-de-europa-ideas-de-los-ciudadanos-sobre-economia-y-la-ue-en-el-mundo\">M\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n: Parlamento Europeo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"ep-p_text\"><span class=\"ep_name\">Conference on the Future of Europe: MEPs start preparing Parliament\u2019s positions<\/span><\/h3>\n<div class=\"ep_gridcolumn ep-m_product\" data-view1200=\"6\" data-view1020=\"6\" data-view750=\"10\" data-view640=\"6\" data-view480=\"8\" data-view320=\"4\">\n<div class=\"ep_gridcolumn-content\">\n<div class=\"ep-a_text ep-layout_chapo\">\n<div class=\"ep_gridcolumn ep-m_product\" data-view1200=\"6\" data-view1020=\"6\" data-view750=\"10\" data-view640=\"6\" data-view480=\"8\" data-view320=\"4\">\n<div class=\"ep_gridcolumn-content\">\n<div class=\"ep-a_text ep-layout_chapo\">\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/conference-delegation.europarl.europa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parliament\u2019s 108-strong delegation to the Conference on the Future of Europe<\/a>\u00a0will meet to discuss:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the state of play in the Plenary Working Groups;<\/li>\n<li>a proposed joint statement between the delegations to the Conference Plenary of the European Parliament and national parliaments; and<\/li>\n<li>the follow-up of the Conference.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\"><strong>When<\/strong>: Wednesday 16 March 2022, 13:45 &#8211; 15:45<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\"><strong>Where<\/strong>: SPINELLI building, room 1G3, with remote participation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">A joint statement of the two parliamentary delegations to the Plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe is being prepared by MEPs and member state MPs, the latter under the leadership of representatives from the French National Assembly and Senate. It is expected to comprise a set of common positions on key areas of the Conference\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">The exchange will also revolve around the follow up of the outcomes of the Conference, which is approaching its conclusion. Parliament\u2019s delegation is aiming for an ambitious outcome, by turning the recommendations of citizens into strong proposals that will take into account the latest threats to European democracy, peace, and security. You can follow the exchange\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/multimedia.europarl.europa.eu\/webstreaming\/delegation-to-conference-on-future-of-europe_20220316-1345-SPECIAL-OTHER\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">live on Parliament\u2019s Multimedia Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">Following the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/press-room\/20220309IPR25151\/future-of-europe-another-conference-plenary-dedicated-to-citizens-proposals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4th session<\/a>\u00a0of its Plenary, the Conference on the Future of Europe has entered its final phase. At its next meeting on 25 &#8211; 26 March, the Plenary will start preparing its proposals, which will be based on recommendations from both national and European Citizens&#8217; Panels, input gathered from the Multilingual Digital Platform, and debates in the Conference Plenary and its working groups. The exchanges and proposals will be grouped thematically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\"><strong>Information on COVID-19 precautions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ep-wysiwig_paragraph\">Accredited journalists wishing to attend the meeting in person can do so. As of 14 March, some preventive measures have been lifted but all people entering Parliament\u2019s buildings are still requested to present a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate, including journalists. Both digital and paper formats of the EU Digital COVID Certificate or of a recognised equivalent certificate will be accepted. Proof of a negative result of a PCR test carried out within the last 48 hours in Belgium, Luxembourg or France will also be accepted.
