Mar\u00eda del Mar Jim\u00e9nez Lasserrotte, assistant professor at the Department of Nursing at the University of Almer\u00eda, has won the prize for the best innovative project.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of these awards, which have been very well received in terms of participants, is to encourage and motivate nursing professionals in the elaboration and development of research and innovation projects, as well as to give visibility and diffusion to the contributions of the nursing profession in health outcomes.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4pLFkcrcavY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The project presented by Mar\u00eda del Mar Jim\u00e9nez Lasserrotte is entitled &#8216;Socio-sanitary attention, experiences and care for irregular immigrants arriving by sea during the Covid-19 pandemic&#8217;. The prize consists of an economic endowment of 10,000 euros that will allow her and her team to continue working on it for 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For me this award is very important for different reasons. The first is that it recognizes all the work done. I am proud to have come first in the category of the socio-health field. The second is that it gives me the opportunity to continue developing this project on immigration and health issues. And finally, it is important because as a professor we have to develop our research curriculum and calls like this one give us the opportunity to do so,&#8221; explained Jim\u00e9nez Lasserrotte.<\/p>\n<p>The awarded research project consists of being able to know the experiences of both the immigrants who arrive in patera to the coasts of Andalusia affected by Covid-19, as well as the close contacts. And to know the experiences of all the professionals who are involved in this socio-health care, both on arrival and afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>These people, being infected by Covid-19, cannot be released because they have to undergo confinement, and neither can they enter an internment or reception center, etc. (depending on their circumstances). For this reason, centers of shared management between the Andalusian Health System and the Red Cross were created in Andalusia where these people can spend this confinement. The project aims to learn about the experiences of all the staff working in these shared management centers and also of the immigrants, both their care on arrival and within the centers. &#8220;This project is a descriptive qualitative study that aims to know the experiences of immigrants and all the agents and professionals involved in social and health care, that is, the experience of doctors, nurses, cultural mediators and the State Security Forces and Corps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This research group has been working for two years in the line of health and immigration and has previous studies on the socio-health care of immigrants arriving in patera, on their cultural and health needs. &#8220;We have also studied the attention to specific groups such as women who arrive in boats or minors who come accompanied by their mothers or fathers. In addition, we have investigated the phenomenon of women who suffer sexual violence or are victims of human trafficking and the experience of doctors and nurses.
