A further section on human rights and health will be published in December, as well as a number of additional case studies and audio-visual materials.<\/p>\n<h3>16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence<\/h3>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/16dayscampaign.org\/\">16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence<\/a>\u00a0is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women\u2019s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women\u2019s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.<\/p>\n<p>In support of this civil society initiative, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/what-we-do\/ending-violence-against-women\/take-action\/unite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations Secretary-General\u2019s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign<\/a>\u00a0(UNiTE campaign) calls for global actions to increase awareness, galvanize advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations.<\/p>\n<p>The global theme for this year\u2019s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which will run from 25 November to 10 December 2021, is\u00a0<strong>\u201cOrange the world: End <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/femicide-a-classifcation-system\/\">violence against women now<\/a>!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the Global 16 Days Campaign. Inspired by the original vision and history of the Campaign, which focused on raising awareness about violence against women (VAW), and considering the continuing impunity for femicide, this year the Campaign will focus on the issue of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/ficha\/measuring-femicide-in-the-eu-and-internationally\/\">femicide or the gender-related killing of women<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, in addition to the anniversary theme, the Campaign will continue its program activities to end gender-based violence (GBV) in the world of work by focusing on the link between domestic violence and the world of work, drawing on legal standards outlined in ILO Convention 190 (C190) and the actions put forward in Recommendation 206 (R206).<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 has presented us with new challenges which call for individual and collective solutions. Let\u2019s continue our efforts all year round from 16 to 365 days of activism, to advance the human rights of women. Stay tuned!\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/16dayscampaign.org\/2021\/06\/24\/ilo-convention-190-c190-enters-into-force-global-16-days-campaign-applauds-the-six-countries-that-have-ratified-the-convention-and-hopes-more-will-follow-suit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>About the Global 16 Days Campaign<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"highlight_inner cwgl_yellow_bg\">\n<p>The\u00a0Global 16 Days Campaign, launched by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cwgl.rutgers.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Women\u2019s Global Leadership<\/a>\u00a0(CWGL) at its first Women\u2019s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, has been used worldwide to call for the elimination of gender-based violence (GBV). It is run annually from November 25 (International Day Against Violence Against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day). In 2018, a multi-year theme focusing on ending GBV and harassment in the world of work was announced by CWGL to coincide with the adoption of a historic new ILO Convention with the same focus.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the Campaign\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/16dayscampaign.org\/downloadable-campaign-graphics\/#gallery-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>increased its efforts to amplify the voices of women workers in the informal economy<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0while continuing to call for the\u00a0<strong>ratification of ILO Convention 190<\/strong>\u00a0and to\u00a0<strong>end all forms of GBV in private and public spaces<\/strong>. In 2021, the Campaign will focus on\u00a0<strong>Domestic Violence in the world of work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Global 16 Days Campaign.
