LIFE is the only programme at EU-level solely dedicated to the environment and climate and the programme for 2021-27 is the most ambitious yet. There will be \u20ac3.5 billion for environmental activities and \u20ac1.9 billion for climate action.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The programme is part of the\u00a0Green Deal package<\/a>\u00a0proposed by the European Commission.<\/p>\n

Creating a cleaner and\u00a0more circular economy<\/a>\u00a0that re-uses and recycles products is a main priority for the EU and the LIFE programme will have an important role to play. The programme will support the transition to clean energy and will work together with other programmes towards the EU goal of\u00a0achieving carbon neutrality<\/a>\u00a0by 2050. It also aims to protect and improve the quality of the environment and to\u00a0halt and reverse biodiversity loss<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The LIFE programme is part of the EU long-term budget and\u00a0recovery plans, which committed to spending 30% on climate action<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The other programmes include the Just Transition Fund to help\u00a0EU regions to adapt to the green economy<\/a>,\u00a0InvestEU which will finance climate projects<\/a>, and Horizon Europe<\/a> which will\u00a0fund EU research and innovation in the climate sector<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both the LIFE Regulation 2021-2027 and the Multiannual Work Program 2021-2024 are still under discussion and pending approval.<\/p>\n

The new LIFE program will cover the following areas:<\/strong><\/div>\n

  • Nature and biodiversity<\/li>\n
  • Circular economy and quality of life<\/li>\n
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation<\/li>\n
  • Clean energy transition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Call Launch: Spring 2021<\/li>\n
    • Deadline for applications: Fall 2021<\/li>\n
    • Evaluation: 2021\/2022<\/li>\n
