{"id":64268,"date":"2021-03-09T03:00:10","date_gmt":"2021-03-09T02:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=64268"},"modified":"2021-09-14T14:42:09","modified_gmt":"2021-09-14T12:42:09","slug":"new-eu-energy-labels-applicable-from-1-march-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/new-eu-energy-labels-applicable-from-1-march-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"New EU energy labels applicable from 1 March 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To help EU consumers cut their energy bills and carbon footprint, a brand new version of the widely-recognised <strong>EU energy label<\/strong> will be applicable in all shops and online retailers from Monday, 1 March 2021.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/descarga-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-64272 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/descarga-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new labels will initially apply to<strong> four product categories<\/strong> \u2013 fridges and freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, and television sets (and other external monitors). New labels for light bulbs and lamps with fixed light sources will follow on 1 September, and other products will follow in the coming years<\/p>\n<p>The most important change is to return to a simpler<strong> A-G scale<\/strong>. This scale is stricter and designed so that very few products are initially able to achieve the \u201cA\u201d rating, leaving space for more efficient products to be included in the future. The most energy efficient products currently on the market will typically now be labelled as \u201cB\u201d, \u201cC\u201d or \u201cD\u201d. A number of new elements will be included on the labels, including a QR link to an EU-wide database, which will allow consumers to find more details about the product.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/P050234-915904.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-64276 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/P050234-915904-1024x664.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"664\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/P050234-915904-1024x664.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/P050234-915904-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/P050234-915904-768x498.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/P050234-915904.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner for Energy, Kadri\u00a0<strong>Simson<\/strong>, said:\u00a0<em>\u201cThe original energy label has been very successful, saving an average household in Europe several hundred euros per year and motivating companies to invest into research and development. Until the end of February, over 90% of products were labelled either A+, A++ or A+++. The new system will be clearer for consumers and ensure that businesses continue to innovate and offer even more efficient products. This also helps us to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>By scanning the QR-code, consumers can find additional information about the product model, such as data relating to the dimensions, specific features or test results depending on the appliance.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Background<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The EU energy label is a widely recognised feature on household products, like lightbulbs, television sets or washing machines, and has helped consumers make informed choices for more than 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>The new categories for the rescaled label were agreed after a rigorous and fully transparent consultation process, with the close involvement of stakeholders and Member States at all stages, scrutiny by the Council and the European Parliament and with sufficient involvement of and notice provided to manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>El cambio a las etiquetas reajustadas coincide con la entrada en vigor de dos Reglamentos (\u00ab\u00f3mnibus\u00bb) horizontales adoptados recientemente para corregir o aclarar una serie de problemas detectados en los Reglamentos sobre etiquetado energ\u00e9tico y dise\u00f1o ecol\u00f3gico en cuesti\u00f3n adoptados originalmente en 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The switch to the rescaled labels coincides with the entry into force of two horizontal (\u201comnibus\u201d) regulations recently adopted to correct or clarify a range of issues identified in the concerned energy labelling and ecodesign regulations as originally adopted in 2019.<\/p>\n<h3>Further information:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_21_818\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Press release-European Commission<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To help EU consumers cut their energy bills and carbon footprint, a brand new version of the widely-recognised EU energy label will be applicable in all shops and online retailers from Monday, 1 March 2021.
