This is the first disbursement in 2021.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-61547\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure.jpg\" alt=\"Commission disburses \u20ac14 billion under SURE to nine Member States\" width=\"649\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure-1280x720.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sure-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 649px) 100vw, 649px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As part of these operations, Belgium has received \u20ac2 billion, Cyprus \u20ac229 million, Hungary \u20ac304 million, Latvia \u20ac72 million, Poland \u20ac4.28 billion, Slovenia \u20ac913 million, Spain \u20ac1.03 billion, Greece \u20ac728 million and Italy \u20ac4.45 billion. All nine Member States had already received financial support under SURE in 2020, under one of the first three issuances and disbursement operations that took place in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>These loans will assist Member States in addressing sudden increases in public expenditure to preserve employment. Specifically, they will help Member States cover the costs directly related to the financing of national short-time work schemes, and other similar measures that they have put in place as a response to the coronavirus pandemic, including for the self-employed.<\/p>\n<p>Following these disbursements, 15 Member States have received a total of \u20ac53.5 billion under the SURE instrument. Once all SURE disbursements have been completed, Belgium will have received \u20ac7.8 billion, Cyprus \u20ac479 million, Hungary \u20ac504 million, Latvia \u20ac192 million, Poland \u20ac11.2 billion, Slovenia \u20ac1.1 billion, Spain \u20ac21.3 billion, Greece \u20ac2.7 billion and Italy \u20ac27.4 billion.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Members of the College declarations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>President Ursula<strong>\u00a0von der Leyen\u00a0<\/strong>said:\u00a0<em>\u201cUnder the SURE programme, the EU has mobilised up to \u20ac100 billion in loans for EU Member States to save jobs and keep people in work. The funds are regularly making their way to our Member States, helping them financially to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Commissioner\u00a0<strong>Johannes Hahn,\u00a0<\/strong>in charge of Budget and Administration, said:\u00a0<em>\u201dFollowing the fourth successful bond issuance under SURE, we have now disbursed more than half of the funds foreseen under this instrument. The 15 Member States benefitting from the initial four disbursements are now better equipped to alleviate the social impact of the coronavirus pandemic. We will proceed with a speedy implementation of the rest of the programme in order to provide all authorised funds for the 18 Member States that have so far requested financial support under this instrument<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Paolo\u00a0<strong>Gentiloni<\/strong>,\u00a0Commissioner for Economy, said: \u201c<em>Today, the European Commission pays out a further \u20ac14 billion to support workers in nine hard-hit EU countries. The pandemic continues to weigh on our economies and while we know there is light at the end of this tunnel, we don&#8217;t yet know how much longer until we reach it.
