Los responsables de este gran descubrimiento continuaron sus investigaciones a fin de conocer estos planetas con mayor detalle, una labor que aport\u00f3 informaci\u00f3n sobre su naturaleza y composici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>En una \u00e9poca en la que la astronom\u00eda tiene capacidad para buscar planetas potencialmente habitables en torno a estrellas distintas al Sol, el proyecto financiado con fondos europeos SPECULOOS se dedic\u00f3 en concreto a las m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as y tenues. El tama\u00f1o y la debilidad de estas estrellas enanas ultrafr\u00edas las convierte en candidatas ideales para el estudio de sus planetas dada la tecnolog\u00eda disponible. Pero los planetas de TRAPPIST-1 tambi\u00e9n presentan otras ventajas. Sus periodos orbitales cortos duran entre 1,5 y 18,7 d\u00edas, de forma que generan muchas oportunidades de observaci\u00f3n desde la Tierra al pasar por delante de su estrella.<\/p>\n<p>Las ventajas que ofrecen las caracter\u00edsticas del sistema planetario de TRAPPIST-1 se aprovecharon mediante un estudio con los telescopios terrestres TRAPPIST y SPECULOOS y los telescopios espaciales Hubble y Spitzer, herramientas que permitieron ampliar los estudios sobre la naturaleza y la posible habitabilidad de los planetas. Sus observaciones generaron c\u00e1lculos m\u00e1s precisos de las distancias, la temperatura, el radio y la masa de la estrella enana.
