{"id":52300,"date":"2020-09-16T03:00:06","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T01:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=52300"},"modified":"2021-11-17T11:18:59","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T10:18:59","slug":"covid-19-evolution-in-america-may-july-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/covid-19-evolution-in-america-may-july-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Evolution in America: May-July 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This document collects and analyzes data on the evolution of COVID-19, collected by <strong>Johns Hopkins University<\/strong> and published daily by the European Documentation Center of Almer\u00eda during the months of May, June and July 2020.<\/p>\n<h3>COVID-19: America Overview<\/h3>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3736707\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3736707\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<h3>Evolution of confirmed cases in America<\/h3>\n<p>America recorded a total number of <strong>confirmed cases of 2.259.925<\/strong> at the end of <strong>May<\/strong>. Thus, this number increases within July reaching <strong>5.208.692<\/strong> total of confirmed cases which means a <strong>130.48%<\/strong> <strong>regarding the number of the previous month.<\/strong> Last but not least, the number of cases grew reaching <strong>9.150.094<\/strong> people with COVID-19.<\/p>\n<h3>Evolution of deaths cases in America<\/h3>\n<p>The number of passing was <strong>152.425<\/strong> during <strong>May<\/strong> which represents <strong>6.74%<\/strong> out of the <strong>total confirmed<\/strong> cases until this day. Within the next month, this figure increased reaching <strong>248.391<\/strong> (<strong>62,95%<\/strong> more than in the previous month). The numbers in <strong>July<\/strong> show <strong>351.003<\/strong> deaths within this month which represents an increase of <strong>41.31%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Evolution of recovers in America<\/h3>\n<p><strong>796.592<\/strong> was the number of recovers from COVID-19 in within <strong>May<\/strong> which means that <strong>32.35%<\/strong> of the confirmed cases recovered from COVID-19. In the next month, the figure significantly increased reaching <strong>2.254.943<\/strong>, it is <strong>183% more than in the previous month<\/strong>. Likewise, the number of recovers within July was <strong>4.754.486<\/strong> (110% more than <strong>June<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<h3>Most affected American Countries by COVID-19<\/h3>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3747692\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3747692\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>most affected countries<\/strong> by this pandemic within this quarterly were the <strong>United States of Americ<\/strong>a that had <strong>4.427.493<\/strong> confirmed cases (<strong>48.93%<\/strong> of the total in the continente). USA is followed by <b>Brazil <\/b>that registered <strong>27.89%<\/strong> out of the total confirmed cases (<strong>2.552.265<\/strong>). Thus, <strong>Mexico<\/strong> is placed in the third position having <strong>408.449<\/strong> confirmed cases through this <strong>quarterly<\/strong> that represents <strong>4.46%<\/strong> <strong>of the total confirmed cases.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The data shows a different pattern when we we take a look and analyze the data of cases <strong>per 100.000 inhabitants<\/strong>. Thus, Chile or Panama are placed in the first two positions of the ranking having 1.808,08 cases per 100.000 inhabitants and 1.543,15 cases per 100.000 inhabitants each one. What\u2019s more, these countries are followed by the United States (1.352,52), Brazil (1.207,43) y Peru (1.094,76).<\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-hierarchy\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3747608\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3747608\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<h3>Most passings in America by COVID-19<\/h3>\n<p>The countries that had a higher rate of passings in <strong>July<\/strong> are <strong>USA<\/strong> (<strong>150.716<\/strong>) holding <strong>42.94%<\/strong> of the total deaths in the continente, followe by <strong>Brazil <\/strong>(<strong>90.134<\/strong>) with <strong>25.68%<\/strong> and <strong>Mexico<\/strong> (<strong>45.361<\/strong>) with <strong>12.92%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The countries with a lower number of deaths are <strong>Saint Lucia (0), Antigua and Barbuda (3) and Trinidad and Tobago (8).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first positions in this matter if we cosinder the data per 100.000 inhabitants is different being <strong>Peru<\/strong> the first country (<strong>51,41<\/strong>), followed by <strong>Chile<\/strong> (<strong>49,61<\/strong>) and <strong>USA<\/strong> (<strong>46,04<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>The countries with a lower number of deaths per 100.000 inhabitants are <strong>Saint Lucia(0), Jamaica (0.34) and Venezuela (0.53).<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Quarterly evolution of COVID-19 in the most affected countries<\/h3>\n<h4><strong>United States of America<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>USA recorded <strong>1.669.933<\/strong> confirmed cases at the end of <strong>May<\/strong>, being the most affected country in America. Thus, the position in the ranking would not vary within the next month as the country recorded <strong>2.590.582<\/strong> and <strong>4.427.493<\/strong> confirmed cases in <strong>July<\/strong>. The evolution of the data since <strong>may<\/strong> until July shows an increase of <strong>165.13%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3737613\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3737613\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>USA recorded <strong>100.422<\/strong> passings by COVID-19 within <strong>May<\/strong> and followed by 126.141 cases in <strong>June<\/strong>. This number increased thorugh the next month reaching <strong>150.716<\/strong> passings which represents a <strong>3.40%<\/strong> of the confirmed cases in the country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3737647\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3737647\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>The number of recovers in USA was <strong>391.508<\/strong> by <strong>May<\/strong>. In the next month, the number of recovers reached <strong>705.203<\/strong> people and the number would grow even more by the end of <strong>July<\/strong> to <strong>1.389.425<\/strong> (<strong>31,38%<\/strong> of the total confirmed cases).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>B<\/strong><strong>razil<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745525\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745525\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Brazil ranks in the second place regarding the <strong>total number of confirmed<\/strong> <strong>cases<\/strong> by COVID-19 with <strong>411,821<\/strong> at the end of <strong>May<\/strong>, a figure that increased considerably in the month of <strong>June<\/strong> to reach <strong>1,368,195<\/strong>, a <strong>232% increase<\/strong>. At the end of <strong>July<\/strong>, the country recorded a figure of <strong>2,552,265<\/strong> infected people, that is,<strong> 1,184,070 more than the previous month.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In terms of <strong>deaths<\/strong>, Brazil recorded a figure of <strong>25,598<\/strong> deaths at the end of May, which increased to <strong>58,314<\/strong> (<strong>4.26%<\/strong> of those infected to date). Likewise, we observe that the number of deaths reached <strong>90,134<\/strong> in <strong>July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The number of <strong>recoveries<\/strong> stood at <strong>166,647<\/strong> at the end of <strong>May<\/strong>. Thus, this figure added <strong>591,164<\/strong> more recoveries by <strong>June<\/strong> just to reach <strong>757,811<\/strong> people reccovered from the COVID-19. In the last month of the quarter, Brazil reached <strong>1,922,802<\/strong> recovered, an increase of <strong>153.73%<\/strong> over <strong>June<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745564\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745564\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<h4><strong>Mexico<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745503\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745503\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>The total number of people infected at the end of <strong>May<\/strong> in Mexico was <strong>78,023<\/strong>, a very low figure compared to the data recorded in of <strong>June<\/strong> when it reached <strong>220,657<\/strong>, that is, <strong>182%<\/strong> more than in the previous month. In July, the total figure reached <strong>408,449<\/strong>, <strong>0.32% of Mexico&#8217;s total population.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The number of <strong>deaths<\/strong> in <strong>May<\/strong> was <strong>8,597<\/strong> (<strong>11%<\/strong> of the total confirmed cases). In June, <strong>27,121<\/strong> people died, an increase of <strong>18,524<\/strong> deaths compared to the previous month. Finally, the number of deaths was <strong>45,361<\/strong> in <strong>July<\/strong> due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>recoveries<\/strong> in Mexico recorded <strong>53,834<\/strong> in May while in June, the figure reached <strong>170,147<\/strong> within <strong>June<\/strong> what is, more than <strong>100,000<\/strong> recovered people during this month. In July, the data for recoveries is <strong>314,538<\/strong> (<strong>77%<\/strong> of the total confirmed cases).<\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745558\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745558\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<h4><strong>Chile<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>During this quarter, the country of Chile registered a total of <strong>82,289<\/strong> cases in <strong>May<\/strong>, with an increase in the month of <strong>June<\/strong> to reach <strong>275,999<\/strong> infected throughout the country. <strong>July<\/strong> data shows <strong>351,575<\/strong> cases <strong>(1.88% of the country&#8217;s total population).<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745575\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745575\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>The number of <strong>recoveries<\/strong> in May was <strong>33,540<\/strong>, which increased to <strong>236,154<\/strong> recovered by the end of <strong>June<\/strong> (<strong>86%<\/strong> of total confirmed cases). In <strong>July<\/strong>, <strong>324,557<\/strong> people were recovered (<strong>92.3% of total confirmed cases).<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745581\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745581\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<h4><strong>Per\u00fa<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745584\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745584\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>The <strong>total number of cases<\/strong> in Peru during the month of <strong>May<\/strong>, as we can see in the graph, reached <strong>135,905<\/strong>, suffering a considerable increase during the month of <strong>June<\/strong> until reaching <strong>282,365<\/strong> infected. In <strong>July<\/strong>, <strong>400,683<\/strong> people were infected <strong>(1.09% of the country&#8217;s total population).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As for <strong>passings<\/strong>, Peru recorded <strong>3,983<\/strong> deaths in <strong>May (2.93% of total confirmed cases).<\/strong> In the month of <strong>June<\/strong>, Peru reached <strong>9,504<\/strong> deaths, that is, <strong>5,521<\/strong> more deaths than the previous month. Finally, during the month of <strong>July<\/strong>, there were <strong>48,816<\/strong> deaths from COVID-19.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/3745607\" data-url=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/3745607\/embed\" aria-label=\"\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>The figures for <strong>recoveries<\/strong> in Peru during the month of <strong>May<\/strong> were <strong>59,906<\/strong>.
