The group will be consulted at various stages during the process and will provide input to the EFSA scientific working group in charge of the activity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/health-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-48775 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/health-300x191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"402\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/health-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/health-1024x653.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/health-768x490.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/health-1536x980.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/health-2048x1307.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 402px) 100vw, 402px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nominations for membership of the stakeholder group will be accepted from registered EFSA stakeholder organisations as well as non-registered bodies with an interest in the area of allergenicity assessment.<\/p>\n<p>EFSA will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>address recurring questions related to the allergenicity assessment and protein safety of GM plants. Specific attention will be paid to the usefulness of the current <em>in vitro<\/em>\u00a0protein digestibility test, a pepsin resistance test in the safety assessment of proteins.<\/li>\n<li>also address the main gaps in the allergenicity assessment and the protein safety assessment of novel proteins, highlighting key aspects that need additional work\/discussion and formulating specific research needs on the topic.<\/li>\n<li>Experts from Member States will be also involved in the consultation group. The group will be invited to online (owing to the current sanitary situation) meetings of the Allergenicity Working Group and to a workshop that is scheduled to take place in spring 2021.<\/li>\n<li>EFSA\u2019s Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms will task the Allergenicity Working Group to produce two deliverables: a Statement on the usefulness of\u00a0<em>in vitro<\/em>\u00a0protein digestion in risk assessment; and a scientific opinion providing recommendations for future developments, including research needs, in the field of allergenicity assessment, and protein safety in general.<\/li>\n<li>EFSA is also expected to deliver the statement by the end of this year and the scientific opinion on recommendations by summer 2021.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>More information<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/en\/news\/allergenicity-assessment-gm-plants-stakeholders-support-working-group\">Full news<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EFSA is setting up a stakeholder consultative group to support its upcoming work on the allergenicity assessment of genetically modified (GM) plants.
