The participants set the scene, assessed the platform\u2019s aims and highlighted the role of farmers and rural youth in the platform<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/africa-agricultura.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-47762 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/africa-agricultura-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/africa-agricultura-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/africa-agricultura-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/africa-agricultura.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The AU-EU agri-food platform aims at linking the African and European private sectors in the agri-food sector to foster sustainable and inclusive investments in African agriculture. This platform will help identify sector-specific barriers and challenges to private investment and trade. It will also promote agri-food twinning such as exchange of best practices or mentoring schemes between companies, as well as promote vocational training programmes. Finally, it will give a structure and an effective voice to the African agri-business sector comparable to those in Europe<\/p>\n<p>This platform was included as a <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/IP_19_1569\">recommendation<\/a> put forward by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/food-farming-fisheries\/farming\/international-cooperation\/africa\/eu-africa-partnership_es\">Task force rural Africa<\/a> in their report on 7 March 2019. This group of independent African and European experts was set up in May 2018 by the European Commission to provide advice on strengthening the Africa-Europe partnership in food and farming<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, at the third AU-EU agricultural ministerial conference on 21 June 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/news\/africa-europe-alliance-political-declaration-stronger-partnership-agriculture-food-and-farming-2019-jun-21_es\">AU and EU representatives endorsed a Political Declaration<\/a>, accompanied by an action agenda and in line with the Task force rural Africa\u2019s recommendations.
