Coal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0European Green Deal Communication, presented by the Commission in December 2019, aims to transform the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy where there are<strong> no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/environment-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44361 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/environment-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/environment-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/environment-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/environment-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/environment-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/environment-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Proposals<\/h3>\n<p>Within the most pertinent lines for the RFCS research programme arising from the European Green Deal Communication, applicants to RFCS-2020 call for the coal topic should consider the following elements when preparing their proposals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A power sector must be developed that is based largely on renewable sources, complemented by the rapid phasing out of coal<\/li>\n<li>The EU should also reinforce current initiatives [..] on cross-cutting climate and environment issues. This may include ending global fossil fuel subsidies in line with G20 commitments, [..] phasing out all new coal plant construction, and action to reduce methane emissions<\/li>\n<li>Focus on the regions and sectors that are most affected by the transition because they depend on fossil fuels or carbon-intensive processes<\/li>\n<li>Protect the citizens and workers most vulnerable to the transition, providing access to re-skilling programmes, jobs in new economic sectors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"topicdescriptionkind\">Scope<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Proposals submitted to the RFCS programme on the coal research topic must address at least one of the respective RFCS Research Objectives of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?qid=1591955899856&amp;uri=CELEX:32008D0376\">Council Decision 2008\/376\/EC<\/a>\u00a0(Articles 4 to 7) and should relate to the European Green Deal Communication\u2019s elements listed in the Introduction chapter of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/participants\/data\/ref\/other_eu_prog\/rfcs\/guide\/calls\/rfcs-call-infopack2020_en.pdf\">RFCS 2020 Information Package<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When filling in the proposal, applicants are asked to indicate which research objectives are addressed and which of the European Green Deal Communication\u2019s elements the proposal relates to.<\/p>\n<p>Each proposal shall include an assessment of anticipated industrial, economic, social and environmental benefits, as stated in the Article 26 of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?qid=1591955899856&amp;uri=CELEX:32008D0376\">Council Decision 2008\/376\/EC<\/a>\u00a0\u201cContent of proposals\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Deadline<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\">15 September 2020 17:00:00 Brussels time<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>More information<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/portal\/screen\/opportunities\/topic-details\/rfcs-01-2020;freeTextSearchKeyword=;typeCodes=1;statusCodes=31094502;programCode=null;programDivisionCode=null;focusAreaCode=null;crossCuttingPriorityCode=null;callCode=Default;sortQuery=openingDate;orderBy=desc;onlyTenders=false;topicListKey=topicSearchTablePageState\">Call<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0European Green Deal Communication, presented by the Commission in December 2019, aims to transform the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use.
