{"id":26664,"date":"2019-10-07T03:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-10-07T01:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=26664"},"modified":"2019-10-07T08:10:23","modified_gmt":"2019-10-07T06:10:23","slug":"emas-work-on-new-veterinary-regulation-advances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/emas-work-on-new-veterinary-regulation-advances\/","title":{"rendered":"EMA\u2019s work on new veterinary regulation advances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>EMA has launched a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ema.europa.eu\/en\/veterinary-regulatory\/overview\/implementation-new-veterinary-medicines-regulation\" target=\"_self\">new webpage<\/a>\u00a0that shows the progress made by the Agency in the implementation of the\u00a0new Veterinary Medicines Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2019\/6), which becomes applicable on 28 January 2022.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/animal-farming-animals-farm-66627-1-e1548233717559.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11943 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/animal-farming-animals-farm-66627-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On this webpage, stakeholders can find all relevant information regarding EMA\u2019s scientific and technical recommendations to the European Commission that will feed into delegated and implementing acts as part of the implementation of the legislation, as well as updates on other activities such as the preparation for implementation progresses.<\/p>\n<p>The new regulation contains new measures for increasing the availability of veterinary medicines and enhances EU action against antimicrobial resistance, a high priority for the Agency and the\u00a0European medicines regulatory network. It also aims to reduce administrative burden and encourage medicine innovation and development.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the implementation of the veterinary regulation, the Commission is now preparing\u00a0legislative acts, for which EMA provides scientific and technical recommendations\u00a0when requested.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the topics covered by the Agency\u2019s recommendations are new requirements for the collection of data on the sales and use of antimicrobials in animals, which will complement the work already carried out by EEA states and Switzerland to gather data on sales of antibiotics, or the development of a Union Product Database on veterinary medicines, which will provide information on all veterinary medicines that have been approved, and their availability in EU Member States.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe new veterinary legislation is an area we prioritised and work has been going on, despite EMA having to operate under business continuity conditions to safeguard core activities related to the evaluation and supervision of veterinary medicines,\u201d<\/em> says Ivo Claassen, Head of EMA\u2019s\u00a0Veterinary Medicines Division.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, progress might be affected as the Agency will not only need time to rebuild its workforce after the\u00a0relocation, but may also have to absorb the new activities without a corresponding staffing increase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Preparations are being carried out by experts from EMA and the EU Member States, in consultation with other EU bodies, where necessary. EMA&#8217;s\u00a0Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use (CVMP)\u00a0adopts the Agency&#8217;s scientific recommendations before EMA provides them to the European Commission. A number of recommendations were sent already to the Commission in August.<\/p>\n<p>The relevant documents on the progress of the work on this legislation will be published\u00a0on the Agency\u2019s website\u00a0as they become available.<\/p>\n<p>Regulation (EU) 2019\/6\u00a0repeals\u00a0Directive 2001\/82\/EC\u00a0and amends the provisions of\u00a0Regulation (EU) 726\/2004\u00a0relating to the authorisation and supervision of veterinary medicines, which currently governs the centralised\u00a0marketing authorisation\u00a0procedure for both human and veterinary medicines.
