The 76th<\/sup>\u00a0Venice Film Festival starts today featuring 12 films supported by the\u00a0MEDIA programme<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the EU’s programme for supporting the European film and audiovisual industries.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Four of the MEDIA-supported films have additionally been shortlisted to compete for the\u00a0Golden Lion<\/a>:\u00a0<\/strong>\u2018The Truth’ by Hirokazu Kore-eda (France, Japan), \u2018About Endlessness’ by Roy Andersson (Sweden, Germany, Norway), \u2018Martin Eden’ by Pietro Marcello (Italy, France) and \u2018The Painted Bird’ by V\u00e1clav Marhoul (Czech Republic, Ukraine, Slovakia).<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Orizzonti competition<\/a>\u00a0that is\u00a0dedicated to latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema will feature MEDIA-supported \u2018Blanco en blanco’ by Theo Court (Spain, Chile, France, Germany) and \u2018Madre’ by Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Spain, France). The film \u2018Effetti Domino’ by Alessandro Rosseto (Italy) will be screened in the\u00a0Sconfini section<\/a>that is dedicated to art-house and genre movies, experimental and artists’ films.<\/span><\/p>\n

More supported films<\/h3>\n

Five more films supported by MEDIA will participate in the independent sections\u00a0Giornate degli Autori<\/a>\u00a0as well as in the\u00a0Venice International Film Critics Week<\/a>\u00a0held in parallel to the festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the sidelines of the festival, the European Commission will also organise on Saturday the\u00a0European Film Forum<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
