{"id":22211,"date":"2019-07-18T08:00:11","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T06:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=22211"},"modified":"2019-07-17T10:36:57","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T08:36:57","slug":"eda-defence-innovation-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/eda-defence-innovation-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"EDA Defence Innovation Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>The European Defence Agency (EDA) launched a call for applications from parties interested in participating in the third edition of the \u2018EDA Defence Innovation Prize\u2019 contest rewarding companies and research entities who come up with innovative and ground-breaking technologies, products, processes or services applicable in the defence domain.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/innovationdefenceprize.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-22207 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/innovationdefenceprize-300x100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"339\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/innovationdefenceprize-300x100.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/innovationdefenceprize-768x256.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/innovationdefenceprize-1024x341.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/innovationdefenceprize.jpg 1278w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 339px) 100vw, 339px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The theme chosen for this third prize is <em><strong>&#8220;Artificial intelligence applications for defence&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> and includes the following sub-themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supporting decision-making tools in command and control.<\/li>\n<li>Improve intelligence gathering and processing of information to improve the common operational picture.<\/li>\n<li>Supporting the autonomy of unmanned systems.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrating the efficient use of AI in combination with 5G and Inter of Things.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Prize<\/h2>\n<p>The winning idea\/concept will be <strong>worth 30,000\u20ac.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The prize winner will be selected by an evaluation committee composed of EDA staff. The prize will be handed over during the 2019 EDA Annual Conference in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>The prize winner will also have the opportunity to advertise their ideas in the EDA\u2019s bi-annual magazine (European Defence Matters), on the EDA\u2019 website and through the Agency\u2019s social media channels. Most importantly, the winner will have the possibility to meet partners for future collaborative projects within the EDA framework, potentially eligible for EU R&amp;T co-funding.<\/p>\n<h2>Who can apply<\/h2>\n<p>The contest is especially (but not exclusively) aimed at non-traditional defence industries (civil or dual-use producers) and researchers as they play a growing role in inventing and creating the disruptive capabilities that Member States\u2019 Armed Forces will need tomorrow. The contest also provides a good opportunity for small and medium sized enterprises, research organisations and universities involved in defence R&amp;D activities to demonstrate their know-how, maximize dual-use synergies and create partnerships with key players in the defence field.<\/p>\n<p>Rules of the contest and the criteria for participation<\/p>\n<p>No specific defence background is required to participate in the contest which is open to innovators from ALL types of industries and research institutions in the EDA Member States: defence &amp; civil\/commercial producers, large companies &amp; SMEs, defence-related &amp; civil research communities.
