This is still \u20ac0.5 per 100 kWh lower than in the second half of 2014, the peak of gas prices in the\u00a0last ten years. Among Member States, household gas prices in the second half of 2018 ranged from below \u20ac4 per\u00a0100 kWh in Hungary, Romania and Croatia to around \u20ac9 per 100 kWh in the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark and\u00a0Italy and more than \u20ac12 per 100 kWh in Sweden.\u00a0Taxes and levies in the EU made up on average over a third (37%) of the electricity price charged to households\u00a0in the second half of 2018, and about a quarter (27%) of the gas price.\u00a0These figures on energy prices in the EU are complemented with an article published by Eurostat, the statistical\u00a0office of the European Union.<\/p>\n<h3>Highest increase in electricity prices in Cyprus and Spain, largest falls in Latvia and Poland<\/h3>\n<p>Across the EU Member States, the highest increase in household electricity prices in national currency between\u00a0the second half of 2017 and the second half of 2018 was registered in Cyprus (+19.6%), followed by Spain\u00a0(+13.8%), the Netherlands (+9.7%), the United Kingdom (+8.6%), Ireland (+7.8%) and Estonia (+7.5%).\u00a0Decreases were observed in only four countries: Latvia (-4.5%) followed by Poland (-2.5%), Germany (-1.6%)\u00a0and Lithuania (-0.9%).<\/p>\n<h3>For more information<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/documents\/2995521\/9802432\/8-21052019-AP-EN.pdf\/7f42181d-d795-4ce1-9dde-ba93fe247166\">Full statistic report<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\">Eurostat<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On average, household electricity prices in the European Union (EU) increased to \u20ac21.1 per 100 kWh (+3.5%),\u00a0between the second half of 2017 and the second half of 2018.
