{"id":172447,"date":"2026-11-06T09:29:03","date_gmt":"2026-11-06T08:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=172447"},"modified":"2026-11-06T09:36:05","modified_gmt":"2026-11-06T08:36:05","slug":"el-consejo-europeo-de-innovacion-lanza-un-programa-de-financiacion-de-1-800-millones-de-euros-para-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/el-consejo-europeo-de-innovacion-lanza-un-programa-de-financiacion-de-1-800-millones-de-euros-para-2027\/","title":{"rendered":"The European Innovation Council is launching a funding programme worth 1.8 billion euros for 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The European Commission has adopted the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">European Innovation Council<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> (EIC)<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Work Programme <\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> for 2027, which will allocate 1.8 billion euros to support Europe\u2019s most promising entrepreneurs and researchers in the field of advanced technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">As the final EIC funding package under the multi-billion-euro <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Horizon Europe 2021\u20132027 <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">research strategy <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">, the programme will help turn disruptive research into market-ready innovations and strengthen Europe\u2019s capacity to develop and scale up strategic technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/pexels-pavel-danilyuk-8442101-scaled.jpg\" width=\"696\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">By 2027, the EIC will continue to support high-potential innovators, from early-stage research through to commercialisation and scaling up. The new programme also aligns with the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">EU Strategy for Start-ups and Scale-ups<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> and the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Competitiveness Compass,<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> by making EIC support simpler, faster and more targeted. It will also continue to strengthen support for scaling up through the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Scaleup Europe Fund<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> and the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">EIC STEP Scale Up programme<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">, including dual-use and defence technologies. Furthermore, it will make it easier for innovators to apply for and access funding, whilst promoting a phased, more challenge-oriented approach to support high-risk, high-return innovation. The new measures will also help EIC-backed companies secure their first customers, including through public procurement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The 2027 work programme includes several specific improvements, based on implementation experience, advice from <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">the EIC Board<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> and feedback from Member States. These include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">completing the funding for <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">the Scaleup Europe Fund<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> (\u20ac1 billion), defence investments (\u20ac200 million) and the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Advanced Innovation Challenges pilot programme<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> (\u20ac25 million), all of which were introduced in 2026;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">improving the management of the high volume of applications for innovative research under the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">EIC Pathfinder programme<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">strengthening the innovative impact of <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">the EIC Transition Programme<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> by supporting individual teams and companies rather than consortia;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">expand support for women-led start-ups through a <\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> redesigned <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Women TechEU<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">programme <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">, doubling grants to \u20ac150,000 per start-up, and introducing a new European Prize for Women Innovators in Quantum, which complements the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> existing<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">European Prize for Women Innovators<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">help EIC-backed companies test their technologies with public and private buyers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Fund<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">European Innovation Council (EIC)<\/span><span dir=\"auto\"> has a budget of over \u20ac10 billion for the period 2021\u20132027 <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">under Horizon Europe<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">. Since its creation, it has supported more than 800 companies and nearly 700 research projects, providing funding throughout the entire innovation cycle, from disruptive research under the Pathfinder programme, through to commercialisation under the Transition programme, to support for start-ups and larger companies through Accelerator and STEP Scale Up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The Advanced Innovation Challenges pilot programme, launched in 2026, supports 20 feasibility projects, of which 10 are expected to progress to the prototyping and demonstration phase in 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The EIC Fund has invested nearly 2,000 million euros in more than 375 advanced technology start-ups, attracting 3.5 times that amount in co-investments. In 2026, the EIC also expanded its support to dual-use and defence innovations, and launched the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Scaleup Europe Fund,<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">with \u20ac1,000 million committed by the EIC and a target of at least \u20ac4,000 million from other investors.
