Almost 230,000 people have been displaced in recent weeks, whilst millions across the country continue to face severe food insecurity, malnutrition and limited access to medical care and safe drinking water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">This year, EU-funded assistance has consistently addressed urgent humanitarian needs, focusing on food security and nutrition, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, protection and other vital interventions. This new funding will enable humanitarian partners to respond to growing needs, bolster operational capacity, pre-position essential supplies and strengthen preparedness for a possible further deterioration of the situation, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable people, including displaced families, women and children, people with disabilities and marginalised communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management, <strong>Hadja <\/strong><\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Lahbib<\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\">, said:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><span dir=\"auto\">Yemen is once again engulfed in the violence of war, whilst its humanitarian crisis remains largely forgotten. Families cannot wait for a ceasefire to put food on the table or find a safe place to sleep. Civilians on all sides are paying a terrible price. Attacks that kill civilians and destroy hospitals, homes and essential services must stop. All parties must respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians. The people of Yemen must not be forgotten. The EU will support them for as long as necessary.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Background:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Yemen remains one of the world\u2019s most severe and underfunded humanitarian crises. After more than a decade of conflict, economic collapse and the deterioration of essential services, 22.3 million people in Yemen are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection. Some 5.2 million people are internally displaced, whilst more than 2.2 million children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The ongoing conflict continues to take a devastating toll on the civilian population. Military escalation and attacks targeting civilian infrastructure \u2013 including Sana\u2019a airport, power stations and ports on the Red Sea \u2013 have resulted in civilian casualties and disrupted the flow of vital supplies. Interference with aid deliveries continues to severely hamper the ability of humanitarian organisations to reach those in need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The EU and its Member States remain committed to continuing to provide <\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">humanitarian assistance<\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\"> to Yemen, whilst advocating for the effective protection of human rights and respect for international humanitarian law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The EU promotes a coordinated approach linking humanitarian action, development and peace in Yemen.
