{"id":169152,"date":"2026-06-12T03:00:55","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T01:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=169152"},"modified":"2026-06-11T09:37:56","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T07:37:56","slug":"la-comision-intensifica-sus-acciones-en-materia-de-bioeconomia-europea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/la-comision-intensifica-sus-acciones-en-materia-de-bioeconomia-europea\/","title":{"rendered":"The Commission is stepping up its efforts in the field of the European bioeconomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The European Commission is stepping up the implementation of the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">EU Bioeconomy Strategy<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">by launching three complementary initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/pexels-chokniti-khongchum-1197604-2280568-scaled.jpg\" width=\"743\" height=\"496\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">These include the <\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Bio-based Alliance (BEA) <\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\">to support market expansion, the <\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group (BIDG) <\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\">to improve access to finance<\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">,<\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\">and the <\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Bioeconomy Expert Group <\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\">to support implementation by Member States.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Call for alliance members\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">In this context, a new <strong>call for expressions of interest <\/strong>in joining the BEA was launched today (10 June). Its aim is to address the value chain bottlenecks that prevent companies from scaling up production and achieving full commercialisation of bio-based materials and products.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">This initiative responds to a long-standing challenge facing the European biotechnology sector. Whilst significant public and private investment has supported research, innovation and demonstration activities, many promising companies in the biotechnology sector continue to struggle to reach the commercial phase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">As a result, innovative European start-ups are often acquired by non-European investors before reaching full industrial scale-up, resulting in a loss of economic value and strategic know-how for Europe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">With the mission of <\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">mobilising \u20ac10 billion in purchase commitments from companies by 2030<\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\">, the Alliance will connect producers of bio-based materials, products and technologies with major European buyers, helping to create the predictable demand signals needed to unlock investment and bring innovative solutions to commercial scale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The BEA will become a powerful tool for European strategic autonomy by promoting \u2018Made in the EU\u2019 products. Furthermore, it offers buyers high visibility as leaders in the development of the bio-based industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Interested organisations are invited to express their interest in becoming founding members of the Alliance ahead of its official launch, which will take place on 20 and 21 October 2026 during the<\/span><span class=\"ecl-link__label\"><span dir=\"auto\">World Bioeconomy Summit in Dublin, Ireland.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee membership of the European Bio-based Products Alliance. Formal invitations will be sent following a review process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span dir=\"auto\">First meetings of the BIDG and the expert group.<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Working Group on Bioeconomy Investment Deployment<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">is holding its first meeting today, marking the start of a new joint initiative by the <\/span><span dir=\"auto\">European Circular Bio-based Economy Joint Undertaking<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">\u00a0(CBE JU) and the Commission to strengthen funding for bio-based industries in Europe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The group brings together commercial banks, national promotional banks, venture capital funds and institutional investors to raise awareness within the financial sector of the opportunities offered by the bioeconomy and to mobilise public and private investment to scale up bio-based industries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">In parallel, the Commission has set up a<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Bioeconomy Expert Group<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">to support the implementation of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The group will serve as a key platform for Member States to assist the Commission in implementing the Strategy, receive updates on bioeconomy-related activities, contribute to the monitoring of progress by Member States, and support the development of national and regional bioeconomy strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Representatives from industry and civil society will participate as observers, ensuring a wide range of perspectives.
