The<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">new rules<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">will remain in force until the end of 2027, when the current EGF programme expires.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/pexels-alshreef-37668543-scaled.jpg\" width=\"577\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Currently, the European Growth Fund (EGF) supports workers and the self-employed who have lost their jobs due to restructuring, helping them to re-enter the labour market. However, redundancies caused by restructuring tend to occur in waves, meaning that<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">people at risk of redundancy also need access to training and other forms of support<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">, and would benefit from receiving this at an early stage, before they are made redundant.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">What kind of support is available?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Affected workers can<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">benefit from measures funded<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">by the EGF, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">training to develop new skills or improve existing ones.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">skills certification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">job search assistance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\">career advice<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">These programmes are designed to<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">help workers change roles<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">or find new job opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Fund<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">On 1 April 2025, the Commission proposed amendments to the rules of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), which supports workers who lose their jobs due to major economic changes. The new proposal would enable support to reach workers sooner, including those at risk of losing their jobs in companies undergoing restructuring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The Commission first announced these planned changes in its<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">Industrial Action Plan for the European automotive sector<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">, published on 5 March 2025. The plan forms part of the EU\u2019s wider efforts to support industries such as the automotive and steel sectors, which are facing economic difficulties and geopolitical pressures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The update to the European Growth Fund (EGF) was proposed alongside amendments to<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">the European Social Fund Plus (ESF)<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">, the EU\u2019s main instrument for investing in people and supporting social rights.
