This revamped platform will continue to work towards the Commission\u2019s goal of achieving zero pollution.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/air-pollution-chimney-clouds-459728.jpg\" alt=\"Chimeneas de f\u00e1bricas echando humo\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Earlier this year, the European Commission published the<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">mid-term review of the Zero Pollution Action Plan,<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">which takes stock of the progress made since 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">According to the report, faster action is needed for the EU to meet its zero pollution targets. To drive progress, the Commission is relaunching the <\/span><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform <\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"auto\">and inviting new members to join.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The platform will enable:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Identify and address the social, economic and cultural barriers that are slowing down the transition to zero pollution.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Facilitate the exchange of views, experiences and best practices.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Highlight effective strategies, investments, innovations, digital solutions and skills development that support zero pollution.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Promote international cooperation\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The call for new experts comes halfway towards the<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">2030 zero pollution targets,<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">which can only be achieved if efforts to implement new or revised legislation on air, water, soil, waste, chemicals and nature are stepped up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Who can apply?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Organisations with experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Pollution prevention and control<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Management of air, noise, water, marine and soil pollution<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Reducing pollution from chemicals, products and waste.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Pollution governance and implementation<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Funding, investment and infrastructure<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Research, innovation and digitalisation\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Industry and skills\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The Commission encourages diversity in applications, taking due account of geographical balance, areas of expertise and gender balance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The Director-General for the Environment will appoint up to 50 members for a five-year term. The Directorate-General for the Environment will also chair the platform, together with one member of the Committee of the Regions and one member of the European Economic and Social Committee.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Selected candidates are expected to contribute to the development of a three-year work programme, to be reviewed annually; to attend biannual meetings in Brussels; and to provide expertise and advice to support the implementation of the EU Water Resilience Strategy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The first meeting of the renewed Platform is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span dir=\"auto\">Background<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">was established on 16 December 2021 to support the implementation of<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">the Zero Pollution Action Plan<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">of 12 May 2021. It comprised 9 flagship initiatives and 33 actions, which are now largely implemented (<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">see the tracker<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">The<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">mid-term review of the Zero Pollution Action Plan,<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">carried out on 29 January 2026, identified several new actions and focused on the key factors for their implementation: mainstreaming, investment and innovation. The report also highlights the economic and social benefits of pollution reduction measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Businesses, cities and regions are taking the lead to reap benefits such as increased productivity and better harvests.
