The main objective of the agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom on Gibraltar is to ensure the future prosperity of the entire region.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/gibraltar-scaled.jpg\" width=\"562\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This objective will be achieved by removing all physical barriers to the movement of people and goods between Spain and Gibraltar, while fully safeguarding Schengen, the EU single market and its customs union. Maro\u0161 \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d<strong>, <\/strong>Commissioner for Trade, Economic Security, Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency, said: &#8220;<em>Our objective has been clear and strategic: to ensure the long-term prosperity of the region, while fully safeguarding Schengen, the EU single market and our customs union. With 15,000 people crossing between Gibraltar and Spain every day, this is about legal certainty, confidence for businesses and individuals, and a cooperative future that strengthens our mutual relationship<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement reached will bring confidence and legal certainty to the lives and well-being of people across the region by promoting shared prosperity and close, constructive relations between the Gibraltarian and Spanish authorities. The agreement between the EU and the UK on Gibraltar is the final element that will complete the legal framework for EU-UK relations after Brexit. Gibraltar is not included in the scope of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom, signed in 2020 and in force since 2021.
