The overall objective of the Department of Mobility and Migration, where the project is being carried out, is to understand the role of mobility and migration in the contemporary world and to describe and theorise how identities, practices, discourses, institutions and places are formed and transformed as a function of movement through space and time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"auto\">Under the supervision of Dr Martin Fotta, the doctoral candidate will conduct ethnographic research among Roma or Domari communities in Europe and the Middle East affected by wars and armed conflicts over the last forty years. The doctoral candidate will be part of a research team working on the project &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"CS\"><span dir=\"auto\">Roma Family in the Age of War&#8221; (RAW),<\/span><\/span><span dir=\"auto\">funded by the European Research Council (ERC Consolidator Grant, 101170655). As the Institute of Ethnology is an institution dedicated exclusively to research, the doctoral candidate will receive their PhD from Charles University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\"><span dir=\"auto\">A master&#8217;s degree in social and cultural anthropology or related disciplines.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\"><span dir=\"auto\">A highly organised researcher with a proven ability to work independently.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\"><span dir=\"auto\">Skills in qualitative methods are essential, and experience in ethnographic fieldwork is desirable.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\"><span dir=\"auto\">Very good command of English, both written and spoken.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\"><span dir=\"auto\">Knowledge of languages relevant to the fieldwork; knowledge of Romani is an advantage.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\"><span dir=\"auto\">Ability to present at international conferences and contribute to communications aimed at the general public (blogs, websites, social media).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"auto\"><span dir=\"auto\">Familiarity with critical race studies, kinship anthropology, and the anthropology of violence is an advantage.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gross salary of \u20ac1,950 per month for four years, with an additional 4% increase each year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Organisation\/company<\/b>: The Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><b>Research area<\/b>: Department of Mobility and Migration.<\/p>\n<p><b>Research profile<\/b>: Early-stage researcher (R1).<\/p>\n<p><b>Country<\/b>: Czech Republic.<\/p>\n<p><b>Application deadline<\/b>: 27 February 2026 &#8211; 16:00 (Europe\/Prague).<\/p>\n<p><strong>More information: <a href=\"https:\/\/euraxess.ec.europa.eu\/jobs\/406695\">EURAXESS.\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic, invites applications for a fully funded four-year PhD programme.
