According to the latest figures available (2023), it has increased more than three times as much as trade with non-FTA partners (+4.5% versus +1.2%).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">EU trade agreements also support\u00a0<\/span><strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">diversification<\/span><\/strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<\/span><strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">supply chain stability:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li role=\"listitem\" data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-list-defn-props=\"{&quot;335552541&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:720,&quot;335559991&quot;:360,&quot;469769226&quot;:&quot;Symbol&quot;,&quot;469769242&quot;:[8226],&quot;469777803&quot;:&quot;left&quot;,&quot;469777804&quot;:&quot;\u00b7&quot;,&quot;469777815&quot;:&quot;hybridMultilevel&quot;}\" data-listid=\"1\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\u00b7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\"><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Exports to some of our key partners such as\u00a0<\/span><strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Mexico<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Norway<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Switzerland<\/span><\/strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">, and the\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>United Kingdom<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">compensated for reduced sales of vehicles, vehicle parts and electrical machinery due to EU sanctions against Russia.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li role=\"listitem\" data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-list-defn-props=\"{&quot;335552541&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:720,&quot;335559991&quot;:360,&quot;469769226&quot;:&quot;Symbol&quot;,&quot;469769242&quot;:[8226],&quot;469777803&quot;:&quot;left&quot;,&quot;469777804&quot;:&quot;\u00b7&quot;,&quot;469777815&quot;:&quot;hybridMultilevel&quot;}\" data-listid=\"1\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\u00b7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\"><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">At the same time, increased\u00a0<\/span><strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">imports<\/span><\/strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>of gas and liquefied gas from\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Algeria<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kazakhstan\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">and\u00a0<\/span><strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Norway<\/span><\/strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">, as well as imports of copper from\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Chile<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">helped fill the space left by reduced imports from Russia following the sanctions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Preventing and\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>removing trade barriers<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">in third countries remains fundamental for growing EU trade. 44 such barriers were removed in 2024 alone. A total of 186 barriers has been removed since the Commission&#8217;s Chief Enforcement Officer was appointed in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">Moreover,<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<strong>the EU is actively expanding its network of trade agreements<\/strong><\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\">. Two<\/span><span xml:lang=\"EN-IE\" data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0new EU preferential agreements entered into force last year \u2013 a free trade agreement with New Zealand, and an Economic Partnership Agreement with Kenya. This brings the total number of EU trade agreements currently in place to 44 (covering 76 preferential trade partners). The Commission also concluded negotiations this year with Indonesia, and proposed agreements with Mercosur and Mexico for adoption by the Council and the European Parliament. The EU is currently negotiating trade agreements with India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">Background<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">The annual reports provide an update on the implementation and enforcement of EU trade policy. The fifth edition is accompanied by a Staff Working Document, which updates on the main developments in the EU&#8217;s preferential trade partnerships. The report showcases the impacts of the removal of trade barriers and resolution of disputes in third-country trading partners, including with the help of dispute settlement and the EU&#8217;s strengthened toolbox of autonomous enforcement instruments.
