{"id":162779,"date":"2025-10-31T03:00:28","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T02:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/?p=162779"},"modified":"2025-10-30T13:49:51","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T12:49:51","slug":"phd-physics-and-nanotechnology-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/en\/phd-physics-and-nanotechnology-norway\/","title":{"rendered":"PhD &#8211; Physics and Nanotechnology &#8211; Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ual.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/physics-3871216_1920.jpg\" width=\"496\" height=\"331\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology is looking for a PhD candidate for microfabrication, nanostructuring and Transmission Electron Microscopy studies at the Department of Physics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This PhD position is within the field of experimental materials physics and nanotechnology, in the project \u00abNanoscale imaging of magnetic skyrmion dynamics in thin film devices\u00bb (NIMSKY). Magnetic skyrmions are nanoscale stable magnetic quasiparticles which move when a current is applied. This process requires very little electrical power, which makes skyrmion devices contenders for future low-power computation. However, due to their small size and magnetic nature, skyrmions are difficult to image, especially while moving due to an electric current.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The aim is to both generate and study such magnetic skyrmions, by depositing nanostructured thin film materials and then making highly customizable in-situ chips using the back etching technique at\u00a0NTNU NanoLab. These chips will then be used to perform in-situ magnetic nanocharacterization at the\u00a0Trondheim Node of NORTEM\u00a0\u2013 the national infrastructure for advanced Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The ultimate goal is to perform in-operando studies in the TEM on functioning nanostructured skyrmion thin film devices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Duties<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Complete the doctoral education until obtaining a doctorate<\/li>\n<li>Carry out research of good quality within the framework described above<\/li>\n<li>Academic publications and popular science dissemination<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the NORTEM Trondheim research group<\/li>\n<li>Participate in international activities such as conferences and\/or research stays at foreign educational institutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>You must have a relevant Master&#8217;s degree in nanotechnology, physics, material science or equivalent. Your course of study must<\/li>\n<li>correspond to a five-year Norwegian course, where 120 credits have been obtained at master&#8217;s level. Master students can apply, but the master&#8217;s degree must be obtained and documented before starting the position.<\/li>\n<li>You must have a strong academic background from your previous studies and have an average grade from your Master&#8217;s degree study, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared to\u00a0NTNU&#8217;s grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you have a weaker grade background, you maybe considered if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a PhD education.<\/li>\n<li>You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty&#8217;s Doctoral\u00a0Programme.<\/li>\n<li>Good oral and written presentation skills in English<\/li>\n<li>Experience with experimental work within physics, nanotechnology or material science.<\/li>\n<li>Basic programming skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 550 800 (47.225,78\u20ac).
